Latin American airlines posted a 13.9% increase in international traffic in April
Latin American airlines recorded a 13.9% increase in international enger demand (measured in RPK) in April 2025, placing the region among the fastest-growing globally, according to data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Available capacity (ASK) rose by 14.6%, although the load factor dipped slightly to 83.2%, a 0.6 percentage point drop compared to the same month last year.
Globally, total enger demand grew by 8% year-over-year, driven largely by international traffic, which surged 10.8%, while domestic markets saw a 3.3% increase. Global capacity expanded by 6.5%, pushing the average load factor to 83.6%, a 1.1 percentage point improvement.
“April was a positive month for travel, with steady growth, particularly in international demand,” said Willie Walsh, IATA’s Director General. However, he cautioned about signs of weakness in certain markets, notably a 26% drop in business and first-class travel in North America, along with a 0.5% decline in the U.S. domestic market, which contracted for the third consecutive month.
By region, Asia-Pacific led the growth with a 14.4% increase in international demand, followed by Latin America (13.9%), Africa (13.6%), and the Middle East (11.2%). Europe grew by 9.4%, while North America, though still positive, posted the most modest growth at 5.4%.
In domestic markets, Brazil stood out with a 13.5% increase, ed by a 7.7% rise in capacity and a 4.2 percentage point improvement in the load factor, which reached 81.1%. India, another key market, grew by 10.1% domestically, although a rapid increase in supply led to a slight drop in occupancy. Still, India maintained the highest load factor among major markets, at 85.7%.
